» Tribute to Ron Leppke

Ron Leppke, a long time PCA member, passed away Dec 27 2007 of an apparent heart attack. Ron was a member of PCA for over 40 years and was a Charter member of Diablo Region. For the last three years Ron has served as the Zone 7 Photographer. He attended many events during those years taking pictures of all of us and our cars. He had a strong love for the Porsche cars and for PCA in general. His presence and his efforts for Zone 7 will be greatly missed.

Portland Parade Report and More Photos

» Portland Parade Report from Larry Sharp (Zone 7 President)

» Photos Galore from Ron Leppke

Dear Zone 7 and other PCA friends,

I have just published an iWeb page that contains many photos of Zone Seven participation at Parade Portland earlier this month including a new  Zone 7 Challenge page. Take a look by clicking on the links below:

http://web.mac.com/lepprd/iWeb/Site 2/Zone Challenge.html
http://web.mac.com/lepprd/iWeb/Site 2/Zone 7.html

Many of these, but not all, will eventually be posted on the official Portland web gallery as well. A few of these Z7 photos are not mine, but submitted by "unknown."  More photos will be added in time.  Kind regards, Ron Leppke

Portland Parade Photos

» Photos from Vince Vincent

» Photos from the Portland Parade have been uploaded for viewing with hundreds more to come at http://pca.org/parade2006. Click on "Gallery" from the upper menu. On the left side of the Gallery page, there are two sections. "Submitted" (2,000 so far) includes those photos from Parade attendees whereas "Parade Photographers" will (still being edited) display the images taken by Ron Leppke and Kevin Woods.

Another current source of Zone 7 oriented Portland Parade photos is the iWeb page of a tour to Portland. Hundreds more Parade photos are in the process of being organized and edited prior to posting.  Here is an important note to all, but especially editors. If you use the blue download button (second from the left), the downloaded photo will be from the higher rez original and not the 72 dpi display photo. For example, you drag a photo to your desktop it may be 60 k; it you use the blue button it may be more like 680 k. The photos that I am editing are all in the 900+ to 3 MB range.
The photo below shows Zone 7 as the first round winners in the Zone Challenge series.  Thanks, Ron Leppke

What's New on the LPR website...

  • Nothing new...

Notes from the LPR Webmaster...

  • This site is best viewed with Internet Explorer and uses Java plug-ins.  If you do not see the banner announcements at the top of all pages or the photos of the month on the home page, you should download and install the free Java plug-in software.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view many files and flyers on this website including the online POST  If you do not have Acrobat reader installed, you should Get Acrobat Reader

  • Online POSTfiles are very large, typically 5MB or larger, and can take a while to view online or download unless you have a high speed (i.e. DSL or better) connection.  If you have a dialup connection, it is highly recommended to right click on POST links or icons to download the file and save it to your computer for viewing offline.

  • Spam/Virus Notes

Some members have recently reported receiving spam and viruses in email attachments.  As a courtesy to members, here is some information on common spam tactics and how you can reduce the spam you get, read more at the following link http://sbc.antispam.yahoo.com/tips.  Many times your ISP, such as Yahoo or Earthlink, provides anti-spam filters you can setup for free as a part of your service.  In addition, many of these ISPs have software that you can train so you teach it what is and what is not spam.  They also have very sophisticated anti-virus programs that you can use to prevent viruses from attacking your system.  Make sure your ISP supports these things and purchase a good comprehensive anti-virus and firewall software program (Norton and McAfee are good examples) for added protection.  Here are a few tips to remember:

  • Never open email from an address you don't recognize, but especially never open an attachment from someone you don't recognize.  Attachments of any kind are generally what carry viruses.

  • Never give out your email address online unless you trust the source.

  • Never respond to unsolicited email.  Doing so can alert a sender your email address is valid and get your email address on a spam list.

  • Never click on a hyperlink inside an email.  Same reason as above.

  • Never respond to or forward chain letters, even from someone you know and trust. These letters usually have some touching story and ask you to forward it to as many people as possible, "spreading the word".  Of course what you are really spreading is everyone's email address right back to the spammers so they get everyone's email address for free.

  • No method is bulletproof.  Doing the above will significantly reduce the amount of spam, viruses, and attacks on your computer.  Use good tools as described above, some common sense, and you will eliminate most problems.

    Here are some more helpful links that describe what you can do to help protect yourself from spam, viruses, hoaxes, dangerous attacks, and find lots of info on general internet security issues/;

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

I highly recommended to perform a security check on your systems to make sure it is protected from viruses and internet attacks.  There are free programs on the Symantec and McAfee sites that will check your system for vulnerability:

    http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

    http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp

If you come across some good links or articles on security, spam, viruses, and the link, please click on the link below and let me know about it so I can pass it along to other LPR members...

Remember, spammers get many email addresses from public web sites such as this one.  Many articles, photos, and flyers posted on the LPR website sometimes contain information about members including name, address, phone numbers, and email addresses (for example, GTG flyers usually contain address, phone, and email contact information for the host).  If any information is published about you on this site, whether it is contact information, photos, or whatever, and you would like it removed, please Contact the Webmaster and let me know what you want removed from the site.

    Thanks, Greg

    LPR Webmaster
